<\/span><\/i><\/span>What is pre-flight?<\/span><\/i><\/div>

Pre-flight is a sample printing on plain paper, which takes place after the processing of files (ripping) by the Pre-press Department. We pre-flight to confirm that all the elements of our files (fonts, photos, etc.) are printable. It also helps control page layout in multi-page publications.<\/p>

The only thing not considered in this process is the identification of colour. For this, we produce the proof (see relevant question hereinafter). For each job, the client must check the pre-flight and give his final approval for printing in writing. Next, production uses such pre-flight as the ultimate guide during all the necessary phases of the job. PressiousArvanitidis prints pre-flights for all jobs, and it gives its clients the possibility to view and approve the pre-flights electronically in order to save time.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>

The digital proof produced by PressiousArvanitidis is a true colour imaging of the final printed result. In any case, it is recommended to produce a digitally certified proof, so that the client sees and approves or rejects the final printed result. This is necessary due to the fact that the colours on computer monitors tend to be misleading and may look different from the colour profiles of presses.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>

The entire production area is air conditioned to ensure the quality of the produced work. <\/span><\/i><\/span>What is water-based varnish? What is its usefulness?<\/span><\/i><\/div>

Water-based varnish is a processing material, which is added online to the printed material during the production process. Essentially, a thin coat of matte or glossy (to be chosen) lamination is added. Thus, the print material dries faster, is protected from external factors, such as rings, smudges, etc., while its lifespan increases. Last, water-based varnish adds an aesthetically beautiful finish, which gives the final product a sense of luxury.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>

<\/span><\/i><\/span>What is creasing and when is it needed?<\/span><\/i><\/div>

Creasing is a process that comes after printing, which is mandatory for any print material weighing over 170 gr. During the creasing process, a “dent” – a folding guide, is created which helps the paper to fold without breaking its fibres.<\/p>

This process is absolutely necessary, because any print material whose paper fibres crack on the one hand creates a very bad aesthetic result, and on the other hand has a short lifespan.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>

<\/span><\/i><\/span>Which bookbinding is the most cost effective? glue or pin?<\/span><\/i><\/div>

The choice of bookbinding depends on two components: aesthetics and practice.

With regard to the practical-manufacturing side, pin is the technique of choice for print material consisting of a few pages while glue is the technique of choice for weighty print material. The difference in cost is small (with pin being slightly cheaper).

Binding with glue and sewing (sewn-glued), although more expensive and more time consuming, is considered necessary for print material of over 100 pages, as it ensures the robustness, functionality and longevity of the print material.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>
